Somatic Experiencing: Healing Trauma Through Body Awareness

Trauma Resolution + Nervous-System Regulation

Silhouette with radiant energy glowing from the chest against a purple-blue background.

Welcome.

As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and Trauma-Informed yoga teacher, my specialty lies in embodied trauma recovery. I assist individuals in reclaiming their physiology after trauma, fostering an embodied understanding of nervous system responsiveness and resilience.

My goal is to empower you to communicate with your body in its own language, allowing the true power of healing and trauma resolution to be restored in your hands. Sessions with me emphasize choice and the science of human healing and connection. You can expect self-paced movement that is accessible and somatic inquiry that is both compassionate and curious.

My approach is deeply rooted in Somatic Science® and includes supporting the soul's re-seating itself into the body after regulation is established.

I look forward to working with you. Your healing is my healing.

More about this approach...

My approach to trauma resolution is guided by my embodied understanding of the science of human healing and connection, as explained by The Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute, The Polyvagal Theory, and Somatic Science®. Through my direct experience, I have found that blending these modalities with the ancient wisdom of Advaita Vedanta and Zhineng Qi Gong creates a direct path to healing and happiness.

Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented therapeutic model that focuses on embodied trauma recovery. "Soma" simply means "body."

To begin, there can be a lot of misunderstanding about what trauma is and is not.

Trauma is not merely what happens to us; it is the way our autonomic nervous system responds to those events. When we face overwhelming experiences or prolonged periods of lack, our nervous systems instinctively choose protective responses to help us survive.

(Thank you, Body!)

These responses (flight, fight, freeze) are intended to be temporary. However, in humans, these reactions often become stuck, leading to chronic states of hypervigilance, hypertonicity (tension patterns in the body), hypotonicity (numbness or disconnection from the body), and constant exhaustion.

In our sessions, I will teach you how to settle and release physiological activation from your body, facilitating nervous system regulation. You will learn the simplest and most effective methods to update your nervous system to the present, allowing trauma to become a matter of the past.

If you have been using yoga to help regulate your system or alleviate recurring muscle tension, this approach can assist in untangling and reorganizing your nervous system from the bottom up. Muscle tension resulting from emotional suppression cannot simply be "stretched" out; it requires a different kind of organic movement that Somatic Experiencing provides. Often, this process aids individuals in reducing stress and regaining a sense of regulation and mastery in their lives.

Specifically, this work can be a powerful support for grief, enabling the body’s story of loss to be acknowledged and nurtured while processing the traumatic impacts of loss, allowing the grief to rise and settle more easily.

This embodied learning has brought me peace without the need for constant physical movement or mental distraction, and I look forward to sharing this experience with you!
